Technology Drives Personalized
Learning
The “one-size-fits-all” approach to learning is rapidly being replaced
with a more Personalized Learning approach, which allows students and teachers
to find the best way to learn for everyone’s needs.
This method helps to
address different learning styles, needs, and interests of each student. In
fact, 22% of educators currently employ personalized
learning techniques with 20% expecting to adopt them in the next couple of
years.
Technology and digital skills have a significant role to play in this as
more schools take a personalized learning approach to education. The
introduction of technology, such as the HP EliteBook, powered by Intel® Core®
processors, has changed the way teachers teach, and students learn. It has also
improved and simplified the way students and teachers communicate with each
other allowing a better exchange of information and shared experiences.
From online course content, classes, and lectures to software for
students with special needs, online assessments, and various other tools,
technology has entered the classroom from kindergarten through university. Here
are some of the ways technology is impacting the education system and ushering
in a new era of personalized learning:
1:1 Initiatives
Increasingly, school districts and private institutions are issuing each
student a computer or other electronic device so they can access the internet,
digital course material, digital books, and more. This initiative offers the
benefit of equal access, easy maintenance, and simple networking. To offset
initial costs, some institutions also encourage the policy of bring your own device,
which can face mixed results depending on the quality of the technology.
Mobile Learning
Mobile technologies and powerful portable devices, such as the HP EliteBook,
powered by Intel® Core® processors, empower students to have access to
educational resources at any time and anywhere, maintaining privacy and safety
at the same time.
Adaptive Learning
As schools embrace the diversity of student learning styles, more are
developing a learning system based on the unique needs of any student. Here, technology
empowers teachers to make these changes very quickly, be it changes in course
content or assessment.
Gamification
Kids like video games. But contrary to popular opinion, gaming may boost grades. So educators are using gamification
and technology to motivate students to learn in fun ways by using video games
or by using game elements. While it may not necessarily involve playing an
actual video game in the class—although today’s powerful laptops allow for
fantastic gameplay—using some fun game elements like challenges, levels,
opportunities, player control, progress points, etc. that can be easily tracked
with technology.
Flipped Learning
This is a newer method of learning where class work and homework elements
are possible only due to technology. Students partake in recorded lectures,
which are made available to them at home via the internet. Then, while in class, time is devoted to
discussions and activities around the subjects to reinforce the lessons learned
outside of the classroom.
Technology has drastically changed the way educators teach, and students
learn. As technology grows and improves, effective integration with education
systems is still evolving, with the goal of delivering a personalized learning
experience, so every student achieves their full potential.
